We have to start this update with some sad news following the death of Cobajay Island during his race at Ffos Las on the 31st May. He was a wonderful horse to his owners Lynn & Angus Maclennan and loved by everyone at the yard. He has won on his previous start at Kelso and was in the process of running a big race when the injury occurred, he will be very much missed and leaves a big hole in the yard.
Lawmaking a relatively new horse to the yard opened up his account on just his third run for the yard when winning at Kempton on the 27th June. Ridden by Liam Keniry for owner Marchwood Aggregates in first time visor. He had been sent here to try hurdling but after one run we decided to go back on the flat as he didn’t quite see out 2m. We ran him once on the turf over 1m at Newbury and decided he might need to try some headgear next time. Given a patient ride by Liam he sat off a fast early pace to come through late and win by a short head. The hadicapper has put him up 3lb so hopefully there can still be more to come from him.
July signals the start of us getting busy all the staff have had their holidays and it is time to start getting the horses back in, a few have come back a bit earlier to start their roadwork. The heat and dry weather has given us something else to contend with it certainly makes a difference from battling the snow we had in January. This is always an exciting time of the year with horses coming back in looking fantastic, and getting on young horses for the first time. Plenty of dreams for the season ahead!!
