The Dawn man registered his first win under rules when winning the ‘Bet At Racingtv Handicap Chase’ at Wetherby on the 2nd March ridden by Brendan Powell for Owner Mark Dunphy. He had previously won a point to point in Ireland but at the age of 9 and after 15 attempts he finally got his head in front. Hopefully he can go on and build from this he is rated 88 so there should still be plenty of races for him especially while the ground stays soft. It had been a frustrating day leading up to his win as we had taken four horses up to Wetherby that day. The Crazed Moon was the first to run but she ran no race and was beaten early, nothing obvious has come to light but the ground was very testing she had top weight and it all looked hard work for her we will freshen her up and go again. Thor De Cerisy ran a good race to be second in the novice hurdle carrying a penalty for his win earlier in the season. He looked the winner jumping the last as he seemed to have beaten off the favourite, but one came with a late run to just get up and deny him. He was giving the runner up 10lb and it proved to much in the end. Envol De La Cour was the other runner who fell with a circuit left to go he was still traveling ok but it was still a long way from home. Luckily The Dawn Man came good in the last to send everyone home smiling!!
There were good performances also from ‘Do Your Job’ a lovely big son of Fame and Glory, He was an impressive winner of an Irish point, had one run under rules before joining us. He jumped and travelled brilliantly before seemingly tiring after the last to finish a good second in what looked a decent novice hurdle before hand. This was over 2m4f and he looked as though he didnt really get the trip on the heavy ground. He may well get it on better ground but his next start will be over 2m. He is a lovely horse to go chasing with next season.
Dinsdale ranon the flat at Kemton on the 4th march, he ran a very good race to be fourth only beaten 3 lengths, Kempton 1m4f was always going to be too sharp for him but he was fit and well so wee keen to get a run into him before the better ground does come. As ever he will be great fun on the flat, hurdles or fences over the coming months.
With Cheltenham just around the corner it looks like we will have three runner there this year. Kingswell Theatre run in the x country race, a tough ask made even tougher by the soft ground which isn’t in his favour he has been unlucky this season running some solid races around Cheltenham in these race but the ground always going against him. Let Me Entertain you runs in the bumper, he won on his first start so will improve lots for the experience that day. This is a massive step up but we do like him a lot the ground wont bother him and being a four year old he gets a weight allowance. Rosie and Millie runs in the Mares Novice hurdle on the Thursday, she has done nothing wrong this season and deserves her place in the line up softer the better for her she has speed and stays well, hopefully she can run well at a big price.
